  • I need to build Marine Magnetometer (Simple and Functional)

I would like to build a marine magnetometer to be towed in a calm sea 25 meters deep (bottom).

Someone even built this proton magnetometer ?

I know they are primitive equipment for the current standards, but, for my need, knowledge in analog electronics and financial condition .....

Suggestions and advice are very welcome !!
    Thank you in advance.

What if you were to take a magnetic locator like the Schonstedt GA-52CX and waterproof it? They are found on ebay for less than $300 occasionally. There are other brands too, like CST/Berger.

Use some fluxgate magnetometers like previous user said. Depending on what you exactly are interested to measure, you can have it uni-directional or multi-directional.

I made a frame with wheel having 16 fluxgate magnetometers to scan a parking lot. For the magnetometers, datalogger, wires, cost was around $1500.

You will not need that many mangnetometers or datalogger with many channels. For $300 to $500 you can get pretty good system that you can connect to laptop for real time viewing or store data for later.

I 3D-Printed the case to mount the magnetometer on aluminium frame. You will need to make your tube or device water-tight. I have no experience of that but some silicon and watertight sealant can help you make the system watertight. Or some watertight enclosure. In fact- after you have made proper connection you can put the magnetometers in a casing (like a pvc pipe) and epoxy coat the pipe with few layers, that might help you.

        Best of luck.
