  • Magnetometer Bandwidth

    Hello,
What does Magnetometer Bandwidth DC to Hz mean?
For example FLC-100 is 0 to 1KHz. Another sensor mentioned Bandwidth DC to 10Hz. and there are some sensors with bandwidth 3KHz.
What do these numbers mean? How affect at sensing? Does the sensor with higher numbers is better or with lower number of bandwidth?

    Thanks,

Sensor bandwidth tells you what is the fastest changing magnetic field it can detect. If you are making a magnetometer for ground searching then DC-10Hz is probably sufficient.

      Thanks Carl,
So higher value is better, and there isn't any problem to choose higher bandwidth.

In any sensor system higher bandwidth means greater noise so not always better.

Walt is correct, using a sensor with way more bandwidth than you need could result in more noise. You really need to compare the sensitivity specs for the sensors.

Magnetometer for ground searching DC !
The magnetic field strength earth varies a few nT/h.
