  • TEMPONE as a proton rich liquid:

I just got an email from Dr. Keith P. Madden, who is virtually the

only source that we previously had for information at all on

    TEMPONE.

He gives a couple of sources for the substance which I will check

out when I get time and additionally states:

    "...TEMPONE (4-oxo-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy) ... is a

stable free radical, in the form of a crystaline powder at room

temperature. It is soluble in water, and many organic solvents.

    One gram lists for $25.30."

I will probably not buy too many grams at that price and also I have

come to the conclusion that it is probably not suitable for the

usage of the majority of the members of this Forum for a number of

reasons. Firstly, I now have the idea (belief) that it is only

necessary in magnetometers where constant polarization is required.

Also I have been told that is not stable. (I do NOT understand Dr.

Madden's comment about being a "stable free radical" because I do

NOT know what that is.) Additionally, I have been told that

commercial units which use this substance have to go back to the

factory periodically to have the TEMPONE renewed.

Additional comments would be appreciated from other Forum members.

    Best regards to all.

    Dale
