  • U/W sensors?

I've built up John Beckers (EPE magazine 7/04) magnetometer. Now I'm trying to adapt the sensors to work as some kind of towed underwater fish. I can't seem to find any posting using the FGM-3 sensors underwater.
I spend much of my time looking for lost shipwrecks on Lake Superior. Most have large boilers and steam engines. Our side-scan works has been less than spectacular, so we want to try to adapt a simple magnetometer circuit. The wreck is in 65' of water (5 miles square).
    Thanks, Jim

You can certainly use the fluxgates underwater in a towfish. Some of the better discussions on towfish construction are in the Sonar forum, do a search on towfish.

What does one have to do to the Fat Quarters Software kit in order to have it hooked up to a compter and logging software?? Is It tough??? I want to get the kit, but want to make sure I can build a underwater towfish...and connect to a PC...Anyone have any leads ????

        thanks

Well, I have the EPE (July & August 04) working. I made my own double sided PCB, with a few changes to the circuit. It works well. The software is cool! I'm stuck at the same problem: underwater sensor design... If you read the articles, the most sensitive operation is keeping them "east and west orientation". Well folks, that's mighty hard, when you're on a boat in the middle of Lake Superior! I'm trying to built the sensors into some towfish where they are straight up and down from each other...Any ideas?
