To all at proton mag:
Thank you Carl, for the article by Huggard.
It's from another time, far away in the land
of relays and old transistors, and (yuk) transformers even!.
Folks trying to follow THAT tortured roadmap are sure
to run into potholes.... cup cores? please...
I suppose this means I have to take off a few days to actually
build a mag, otherwise, I'm just talking thru my hat....
In the mean time, for all out there that
are interested in building mags with hard to find
parts, I strongly suggest the Motorola 2N4401 (NPN)
and 2N4403 (PNP) as general purpose devices.
They're some of the lowest noise parts around,
and yet they can conduct enough current for
relay driving and so forth. I pay about 2.5
cents each, and would be happy to send to anyone
that has a project. You describe what you're up to,
I'll put you through suffering my advice, and mail
you a bunch of parts.
As for cup cores, replace those things with active
tuned circuits, and carefully adjust the cap across the
mag coil for tuning.
Damnit, this group is forcing an irresistible vacation
upon me. The sirens of proton are calling.
Keith

Hello all
anyone have any thoughts on sourcing the pot cores - I suspect that
two of
them can be done away with, but I'm not so sure about matching the
bottles
to the main amp and tuning them ...
Not really an area that I know much about I'm afraid !!
