  • magnet detector stronger than a compass

I'm trying to hide some pvc tubes with messages in them for a scavanger hunt. The tubes need to last for 20 years. Most of the tubes are hidden under rocks, etc.

If I put some type of magnet in the tube, could someone with a special compass locate it's position behind some small rocks? (6" diameter).

Could someone in your group PLEASE recommend a small and affordable detection method?

    Thank you very much!

Jill . Do you want to find the tubes right away or are you thinking that they may stay hidden for 20 years . I think you are a romantically inclined young man . But , lets see . If you put your messages into a steel ( iron ) pipe which you in turn put into a PVC pipe and seal that PVC pipe , you are well on your way . The pipe will stay there for 20 years or longer . Anybody with a cheap ,, Radio shack ,, metaldetector will be able to find your pipe back in no time . If you are afraid that there is still some moist air in the PVC pipe which may corrode your iron pipe , fill the space up with hot sand . That will take most of the moisture out . Have fun with your plans . Cornelius
