NewB Question: Geomagnetic anomalies
Howdy Ya'll
This is the first time Ive seen this forum and I no doubt should probably read more before I post this question. But, hey! I'm a newb right?
I have found myself in a position where it should be advantagious to have a firm understanding of Locating and mapping geomagnetic anomalies. Also of interest is Gravitrometery but that is another thread.
Of specific interest is attempting to Locate a diamondferrous deposit I have recently proved. (completely by accident)
It is my understanding that Kimberlite pipes Harbor magnetic anomalies. Being as evidence suggests that I am in close proximty to such a pipe I sure would like to find it.
I am looking for as much information and guidance as possible in understanding and building a magnetometer suitable for locating and mapping such anomalis bodies.
I already know where One anomaly is due to a disorienting experience I had while deer hunting. Later that year while elk hunting. While trying to orient another "lost" person we found that our compasses faced about 120 degrees off course and the needle varied continuosly about 10 deg. +/- On two high quality compasses. Very strange.
Can anyone Maybe try and explain that phenomenon here?
Another point of interest is, If I prove my find, I have access to an airplane from wich I could possibly take readings. Is it possible to build A mag that will do that on a poppers budget?
Everything I know about Magnetometers I Read in the last 3 hours. So any info is welcome. Also information about "blue ground" and such would be greatly appreciated.
Well I hope you guys can steer me to some good Ideas and Info. Thanks for anything you can share.
