Friends . I wish we could make this forum a successful forum . Do I detect a reluctance in some of us to participate ? Some of us are wizzards , some of us are just beginning . Nobody should be afraid to ask questions on this forum . The wizzards can help us on our way ,and we dummies may be able to ask more questions than the wizzards can answer . The subject of metal detecting ( in all its forms ) treasure diving , old maps , history , ships journals is so vast that there must be a nice group of people that can discuss this between them . Do not get me wrong on treasure diving . Treasure diving is more history and detective work than the actual diving . I like to go over old charts and ,, find ,, places . The diving I leave to somebody else . I got both feet on the ground . Romantic ...... yes ... but realist with interesta in a lot of relevant business . Lets try to get it off the ground . I am not a native English speaking person . That mwans that I make a lot of spelling mistake . Maybe the same for you ! Don't be shy though . We will get the message somehow and nobody is interested in perfect English . Just in your contribution . Regards to all . Cornelius

    Cornelius,

Nice that you like to look at old maps and do some research.

Perhaps this is something for you.

On an old map(1856) and German military map (1942) a wreck is shown just west of Oostvoornse meer in Northsea... 1-2 km offshore.

As I am not at home this weekend I cannot give exact coordinates, but it is the only wreck shown on both maps in that area so it cannot be difficult to see which wreck I mean. (there are more on the bottom though..)

The German army map indicates that the mast of the ship was the reason why they still had it on the map in 1942(!).
I think the mast is gone now though... did not skewer my Zodiak on it yet...

Perhaps you have some older maps than I have.
I would be interested to know if this wreck shows on any maps older than 1856.

As we want to try to locate the wreck this summer we would like to know how old it is.
Most likely it is an old fishing boat, but it could also be an old trading ship that was on its way to Brielle.
There are several old wrecks (1600-1800) in Oosvoornse Meer, that corner of the Northsea was a deathtrap once.

    Best regards, Jan

    P.S. I am also Dutch.
