    Bob,

I think the elements are cut out of material 50mm x 50mm.

For some reason that is about the size they can bake at the time.

A larger strip (say 400 mm) would snap very quickly as material is very hard but breaks easily.

I do not think the assembly will be very difficult, just take your time for it.

I do not mind working for a week (or two) on one transducer when the result is that all elements are realy parallel to eachother..

The better the transducer the better the immage.

    Regards, Jan

    Re: Really long elements

OK, I was just wondering.. I figured there might be a limit..

I was thinking about assembly.. we could use Sture's idea of having a template, but instead of plastic, make it steel. Then, assuming we had nickel electrodes, we could put a series of electromagnets on the template to hold it until the expoxy dried.

I think the advantage of nickel electrodes are that they are put on cold. Does anyone know of a disadvantage?

                    Pejbeek,

First off there are 2 books you need to get. The first and most important in terms of learning the basics PLUS inside secrets of the pros is: GOLD TRAILS How to manual & catalog by Glenn Leaver which is only available from the Gold Trails site (link below). I wish this book had been out when I was first getting into prospecting as I would of saved hundreds of dollars and alot of my precious time!

The second book which focuses exclusively on the fine art of nugget hunting with a metal detector is: "Advanced Prospecting & Detecting for Hardrock gold" by Jim Straight. Do not be intimidated by the title as given your time and attention you will learn the inside tricks of the pros plus a good dose of Geology. I met with Jim Straight a couple months ago out in the mojave desert and got some good instructions plus met a new friend. Jim lives here in Southern California and goes to an area across the valley from where I go to drywash and nuggetshoot.

Ok, now far as a low cost kit what you want is the one made by Magenta electronics (based in the UK) which is model 815. It's there low priced Pulse Induction metal detector kit as in your part of the world you don't want to use a VLF machine unless you can afford the Whites GMT for a cool $795 USD. The blokes in your neck of the woods swing a Minelab 2200SD that retails for around $3400USD. Now Garrett Electronics just came out with a new Gold Detector that has got your countrymen eager to own one and they retail for around $1000USD and have the latest technology. The url for Magenta is :www.magenta2000.co.uk/kits/815.htm

So there you have it. Good luck!
