  • Proton Magnetometer help

I hawe built the P M from website
    http://hometown.aol.com/alka1/ProMag.htm
    (listen only version)
The electronic unit is OK, tested with signalgenerator. But the coil only add a very very weak noise. What sort of "noise" can I hear during the 2sek open-time"?
Where do I place the coilcapacity, close to the coil or on the PC-board?
Has one built this P Magnetometer??
    Thanks for Your tips.

    Re: Proton Magnetometer help

I have not built this one but have built several since 1970... On mine I put in several capacitors in the control box (across the leads taht went to the coil) on a rotary switch so that I could switch
to several values by turning the switch. Depending where you are the frequency of precession of the protons will change. Here in Dallas Texas USA it is
about 2025 Hz.. So build a little signal generator
that you can hook coil across it's output. Set the generator coil close to one of the mag coils.
add or remove capacitance for the best signal. Now
move the generator further away and see if it you
can improve the signal by adjusting the capacitors. If you are inside it might be hard to null out the
AC but it is possible by turning one or both of the coils for the best null... YOU WILL HAVE TO
TAKE IT OUTSIDE TO TEST IT after the adjustments.
At my web site I have a link to Dan's magnetometer page so you can hear what it should sound like. Magnetometer page - Link Below
