  • Fluxgate Sensor Change ? to Carl

    hi!,

am wondering if i can wound my own sensor (solenoidal/toroidal) instead of the Fluxgate Sensor attached to the flux mag electronic assembly? i heard the flux sensor can detect at a max depth of 9 feet?

i want to have at least a light indicator tell me as to which of the two flux sensors is getting the signal. how and what to do with the sign bit. am planning to attach an extension PVC pipe on the upper flux sensor. inside this pipe is a metal which can be pulled up and down thereby giving me an estimated depth of the metal object under the ground by measuring the distance between the upper flux sensor and the metal in the extension pipe when the lower light indicator will light up. get my point?

I'm not sure what the max range is for a fluxgate sensor. From what I've read, proton precession designs are a little more sensitive.

You can wind your coils for these, as has been talked about on this forum quite a bit, but they cannot be used in my fluxgate design. You will have to use an entirely different circuit.

I forget now how to hook up the sign bit, and would have to dig out the documentation. I believe it's as simple as adding a resistor and LED, in which case it probably only lights up when one particular sensor is closer, and nothing for the other.

Adding a dummy metal target for depth reading might work, but it also might reduce the dynamic range of the system, because the 007 has to cal it out during power-up. Not sure about this, would be interesting to try, though.
