    All,

Has anyone ever heard of a Dalton Research Proton Mag that worked? I have had one for 20 years and even after sending it back twice it has never detected anything. I see nothing on the net so I don't know if I should junk it or not.

    Thanks

    Tom

    Re: Dalton Magnetometer

    Hi Tom

I tried for several months to get my home made proton magnetometer to work on my workbench in the garage. No luck!

I took it outside clear of all of the iron junk in the house and garage and it worked fine.

Here is how it sounded in my backyard 40 feet from everything.

    I hope this helps,
    Phil

      Re: Dalton Magnetometer

      Hi Tom,
I'm the guy that worked with Dalton (Sandy)
back in the early 70s to get a magnetometer working I got mine working first and showed him what he was doing wrong... I have built several since and gone on to build a Cesium Magnetometer (took me 3 years to make that work). My proton mag would detect a chain link fence at 25'. Over salt water, because it is homogenious, it will detect a ship at considerable depth. My suggestion is that if you are tired of messing with it...put it on E-Bay someone will buy it for $100 or more. I do have a hand drawn diagram of one. No telling if it is the version you have. here is also a patent for it on the Gov Patent web site wit generic diagram.
Dan is right... You gotta get away from the house
and the high tension lines. The magnetic stuff
around the house kill the proton precession so fast that you can't hear them and the AC blows it away. You are starting with something like a 3uV signal for input that must be cleaned up and
      amplified 1,000,000 times.
Visit my web site below to see Cesium Mag stuff, my story, Lost Adams diggings pictures, etc..
