I have started to build a proton mag according to the instructions and calculation formulae of Jim Koehler.
It will be based on a massive toroÏdal sensor which, according to the excel calculation, will give a signal of 1.8µV and will consume 1.8A during the polarisation phase. It is made of a total of 2500 turns of 18 AWG wire. (weight: 2.5Kg)
I chose to build the sensor using 8 times 45° bends of the smallest PVC tubing. This gives me the possibility to wind the two halves easily, join them by glue, fill them with distilled water and finally wind the missing gaps the hard way.
These are intermediate steps of the building of such sensor.

These are the two half core of PVC bends. The 4 bends of each half are glued together but the two halves are still separate at this moment.

This is an other step. One half has been wound and shielded, the other half has only been wound.

    Hi! Willy,

Wow! I think it is great you are are building your own magnetometer. Sometime in the future I just got to build one too! I am closely monitoring your efforts in the construction of your magnetometer. Could you please keep me informed on your progress? Goodbye and Thank you.

This is the completed sensor, wound and shielded.
It will be put in a wooden box and attached to one end of a pole, the battery (a big home alarm type)will be attached to the other end of the pole.
