connetcing PPM to pc

i m working on proton precession mgnetometer.i have been told to interface the output of the magnetometer to PC.i have told to design interface card(16 input32 input) for several sensors.then using RS 232 to provide it tiothe PC for signal processing. the signl is very weak i want to know that is it appropriate to use interface card or using sound card is better.also tell me that i have used a microcontroller to get the output.is it apppropriate.bc i m using old oscilloscope for this purpose.so one problem is that which is better way of interfacing it to PC and use of microcontroller is fine or using interface card is all right .plz guide me in this regard

We are currently thoroughly investigating the TWO methods in parallel (see my latest messages on this forum)
If you are good at micro-controller technology AND programming, i would advice you to go that way with precise counting/timing algorithms but the single big challenge of such a project that is common to both methods is the audio amplification and filtering chain. If you do not make a real good one, you will just get NOISE with, maybe, a SMALL signal buried at the bottom of it.
