I wasn't laughing, but thought it was a very interesting article. I knew it would rain on someone's parade. I wish the true believers had something else to say other than "believe" and "liar". I did not expect the construction to be so simple and poor. You would think that you would get *some* quality for thousands of dollars.
Hi All
There is a new constuction project in the July 04 issue of the Everyday Practical
Electronics magazine (UK) by John Becker
This uses the FGM-3 sensors similar to Carl's design but has added features for logging and
a GPS interface
I cannot find anyone producing this as a kit( as they so often do for these magazine articles )but all parts are available
The FGM-3 sensors are available in the UK and Europe from www.SpeakeSensors.com and in the US from www.FatQuartersSoftware.com. If there is enough interest, Fat Quarters will make available a parts kit of all resistors, capacitors, the 2 diodes, 4013 IC, 20 MHz crystal, and 7805 regulator for $26. postpaid. Note the regulator is a more robust 7805 not the 78L05 the author uses, and all caps which were electrolytic (8 off) will be tantalum. Note that this does not include the pre-programmed PIC or any other parts not specifically mentioned in this email.
A PC board is available from EPE (see page 511 of the July '04 issue) for 5.71 British pounds which is US$11.14 not including postage and handling. If anyone in the US is interested in avoiding the hassle of ordering from the UK, I will order some. Please reply off-list to [email protected]
