  • Good and affordable magnetometer for archeological surveys

    Hello,

I am new to this forum and I am just getting started to learn about magnetometers and gpr for archeology.

What are good and affordable tools for this?

Geophysical equipment is very expensive. What do you consider "affordable"?

Many of the projects on these boards can be home built at an affordable price and a little bit of your time. Search the main geotech website and download some projects. Also, EPE magazine has published both an Earth Resistance Meter Logger project and also a Fluxgate gradiometer project.

    good luck

Hello, by affordable I mean a system that is less than USD 20.000

$20 or $20,000? The period after the first zero is throwing me off.

Are you looking for a 'total field' instrument or a vertical gradiometer?

But lets assume you mean 20K. You can buy a Bartington single channel fluxgate gradiometer GRAD601-1 for under 20K. Check Geoscan Research also if 20K is your budget. Also, the Geometrics Proton Mags can be had for under 10K. For 20K...you can buy a lot of magnetometer. However, that would place the cesium and potassium units out of your price range (I believe).

Right now the American dollar is so weak...buying a European instrument will be costly.
