  • A Few Questions

    Hello,
I have read over many of the threads here, and so I decided it was time to register and ask a few questions. First off I have some experience and worked with GPR. I am interested in building a magnetometer either from a kit, or from plans, (depending what everyone recommends). I am wanting to do geophysical scans or large tracts of land to pick up anomalies, (old foundations, human disturbed soil, etc.). Combine the data with a GPS and software and comeout with something that looks like this:

It seems that from reading other threads the hardest part of what i'm wanting to do is getting my data from the instrument to plotted on a coordinate as seen above. I'm hoping that my experience with GPR will help me with this. Can anyone here point me in the direction I need to go, on whether this is even feasible, costs, and whether I should go from a kit, or from just plans.
    Thank You.
    - Han

    Tough!
What you showed on that photo is achieved with more advanced technology than DIY stuff we are usually dealing with here...
Quality of DIY devices here is not so questionable as maybe looks on first glance. Those will do the job descent enough - but not that good as advanced technology stuff. More money - more music!

I know that I wouldn't get near the resolution that I could get with a professional unit. I'm just wanting to detect anomalies a few inches underground, enough detail to tell the difference between a natural feature, and man made feature would justify the project for me.

Oh that! Than you don't have nothing to worry about; EPE gradiometer will do the job just fine. I can tell this for sure cose already made it and tested it.
Most probably the other project will give you same or even better comfort. I can't tell details about those. Most probably the one sensor setup will do the job also. I made only EPE so far but also analyzed other projects and am sure those will do the job just fine. Carl's magnetometer looking promising to me too. I didn't made it cose couldn't obtain some components so far.
Anyway you are on right place.
        Regards!

          Check all Willy Bayot threads

his kit seems to be the best stuff on this forum, and he has similar processing software package...the best will be to buy his kit ready assembled...belive me, I spent months to develop similar device and finally after 6 months it works. Takes a lot of nervs...If you want results, spare your nervs for survey and dont spend them for building the device
          regards
