  • Who knows how to use this

hi today i got this analog magnetometer, buy i don“t know how to use it and for what can be used. So if anyone can help, i will be very happy.

That is actually a measuring part of a tangent galvanometer. It has been used inside a large coil as an ammeter.

    See fig. 15 on link

      THanks a lot msysta.

So now i will need to know how to reconstruct this galvanometer that for the picture looks easy for me.
If anyone knows how many turns of wire on the 7 inch loop, should i use and how to conect this thing will be fantastic.
      Kind regards
      Nelson

        Hi,

Since it is current measuring device you need to connect it in series with source and load. I think it is easiest to start with "coil" of one loop and use calibrated ammeter as a reference.

So make 7" single loop coil around the apparatus, connect a good-proven amp meter, decent load (resistance) and fox example 9 volts battery in series. See what (if anything) happens with the needle and start putting more loops to coil

It seems that in the ref pic there is two outputs in the coil, obviously for different current scale.

So this is a device used to measure current in early 20th century. I don't see how this could be used as magnetometer.
