  • Field test of Carls Mag

So I took the mag out today to field test it. I plan to use this mag in my company to locate graves. I have several pieces of gear and a good mag would help. I took it to a cemetery that is located on the grounds of a mental hospital. The graves (0ver 3000) have no real tomb stones. They are marked with a small stone with a number on it. It was to shameful to have a family name on a grave like this. The graves are all over 100 years old. All were buried in simple wooden boxes or no box at all, just wrapped in cloth. There is also a mass grave with 550 people in it.
It was a bit hard to tune the mag and I really need to get a better system. I used the exact method in the plans. It took a few tries but it seemed to settle down after 20 minutes. I use head phones to listen to the mag. I hear a modulated beat tone and a secondary high tone. I set the threshold so the beat tone is just slightly increased from it slowest rate. I was able to hear the edge of every single grave as I walked across the cemetery I could pin point each grave. The only indication I get is a sharp rise in the high pitch sound. It is working for my purpose and I am certain that if I can find a better way to get the sensors set up it will work even better. I also will connect the data logger and post some survey maps next time.

    Good work.

Look forward to hearing how you do with a data-logger connected, and producing some survey maps.
