    Thanks Gregor

since you didn't give a price range i will suggest this is the best mags for field work.
    http://www.gemsys.ca/

you can try to buy them used, most all exploration companies use Gem mags

Gee, thats my mistake. So if you donot have funds for the Ferrari of all magnetometers what would be the next best thing?

Having looked at the Gem systems site anyway, it raises another question?

What magnmetometer to find gold? There are so many different types and technologies listed but obviously no mention of users trying to find the yellow stuff!

      Any ideas please?

you would need to be more specific as the type of surveying you want to do,price range and the data formatting either written by hand or stored in the mag.

if you simply want to walk around and have the machine beep or display when the magnetism spikes high or low then any mag will do.

if you want to do a survey with a mag with built in gps, high quality repeateable readings, internal data storage and the data that can be uploaded to a computer then your price range goes up as well as the quality of the survey.

a mag will not find gold, a mag could point to a magnetic anomalie that may host the gold.

Ronjoly - thankyou again for taking time out to reply. I appreciate mag not find gold specifically, only ferrous but I am trying to locate metal object that contains gold, so thought a mag would be useful to own.

I am not interested to make surveys or record data, just a very good hand portable mag that would not fail to pick up metal object covering area with lots of ground cover and scrubland. Some areas heavy mineral iron oxide.

Any ideas please for best? There are so many different types, proton, flux etc. etc. I do not have the brains nor need to know science of mags but would just like of someone who does could suggest best type for what I need.

sorry i only have experience with Gem,Envi or Scintrex mags ...high end proton mags.
there are probably many fine mags discussed in this forum but someone else will have to point the way.
            good luck

Differential type are the best regarding price.

We have now a MarkIV version with GUI option in the operational prototyping phase.
We have now almost exhausted all the set of boards we had in stock and we need to consider starting a new production series with potential hardware and software design improvements.
We have now clients in a number of countries, i.e. France, many in Greece, Czech republik, Germany and Australia.
We have not got any report of any explicit finding using our PPM but I guess this is rather unlikely as people using it are quite secretive about their actual results.
