  • Magnetometer technologies

I am wondering about the technologies deployed in magnetometers that are used in surface and underground exploration. Where does one start to learn and experiment with this detection equipment class ? Is it realistic to think that magnetometer prototypes can be easily built in a garage or attic environment or is this too specific for a home hobbyist to play with ?

I have come across proton and potassium based magnetometer technologies and was quite daunted by them. Those two gave me the impression that magnetometer was not every enthusiast's cup of tea.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please ?

    Regards...

Thanks for the reference Chris. It does look like an excellent source for a beginner like myself.
