    Hi,
If you do a search you will find enough projects and info to be able to build a sensor. They aren't hard to make. For a proton sensor, there are 2 types that are commonly made which are solenoidal and torroidal. A solenoid type sensor is much easier to wind and so quicker to make. The disadvantage is that it is sensitive to position. If you plan to tow it, this will affect the position or tow direction you must take to keep it oriented properly to maintain a signal from the sensor that the mag can use. The torroid sensor is more work and will take longer for you to wind. The advantage is that it is not sensitive to the direction it is towed. The orientation is less important as in the worst orientation to the earth's magnetic field, you will still get 50% signal out of the sensor which is enough for most mags to work with. Another trade off is the liquid you decide to put inside the sensor. There are pluses and minuses to each. Do a google and read all you can find and you'll have decions to make depending on what you want to be able to do. The next thing is to build a tow fish to carry it or to build it in such a container that could be pulled through the water (I'm assuming you meant that you wanted to tow this behind a boat).
    Good luck,
    JJ
