I don't know much about what you are going to use it for, but I would add some kind of gain control. I'm new to the subject so I hope I didn't insult. Typed to soon, the PDF one has it. I also noticed that the OP amp iin the picture should be flipped, so that the + input is on the bottom then ground it and the leg of the coil on the side with out the resister. just realized, you will need to invert the output from the first OP amp so that the 3914 will read correctly

On the PDF I don't understand why use a audio chip amp ahead of a 4069 then amp the signal, then a OP amp as a buffer. I would amp the signal from the transformer with an OP amp then filter, then to the 3914. I hope someone knows more about this then me.

No, I have not built one, but the PDF one looks interesting. I will try that one to see what happens.

Gotta keep a eye on this one. I have most the parts.

I too think a second gain section with a control sections would be cool.

I just built this magnetometer. It is probably strictly spoken a toy, rather than a piece of scientific equipment. On the other hand, me being a novice, I think it is awfully sensitive.
I already bought the PCB a while ago, and that means you need the LM380 with 8 pins, while most people have the 16 pins version in stock. However, availibility of the PCB makes this a nice project for anyone with basic soldering skills.
I will use it in an eartquake simulator demonstration for children at the geomuseum in Norway where I am employed.
My next magnetometer will be one with LCD display, datalogger and professional sensors.
