  • Quantro Sensing Discovery 1A Fast Proton Magnetometer

Ok, I just received my used Quantro Sensing Discovery 1A Fast Proton Magnetometer. Yes, I know used. I'm having trouble fine tuning the mag. First, I'm following the manual to the letter. No metal on my body, no metal no where near the test area, filled with charcoal fluid as instructed, battery charged up, local total nT is about 49430 (according to gov site), got a constant reading of about 49411 after many pin settings. The mag has 12 pin settings. The manual states to set the unit 2000nT below the area total nT. Well, if I set the unit to 2000nT below the total area nT that I get an error reading. The only way I can get a stable reading out of the unit is a setting of 25500nT. I was able to reach Quantro Sensing about this issue. They said if the tuning numbers above are true that the unit is not at its maximum tuned capacity. That is what I get for buying a used unit. I was wondering if any other 1A owners have this same problem. If so, is it fatal or is it correctable? I'm willing to ship it to Quantro Sensing for service, but have yet to hear back from them. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Stop the presses. Ok. Had to replace a small toggle switch (reading speed). Also, the instructions to set the 12pin switch is in reverse. To set the pins is in the opposite direction. I had to take apart the mag to find out which way to properly set the pin switch. The mag actually works very well now. Will post later of any finds (50mi radius from Puerto Escondido Oaxaca). Daniel.

By charcoal fluid you mean petroleum?

        Yes. Petroleum distillate.
