  • Good day, I'm looking for the mod that will convert the Classic II SL with a 6B coil to a Blue Max. I've search the site and it was mentioned, but the links were dead. I bought this recently to use as a loaner unit and to put Mr. Bill's mods on. I've read that there a phasing issue going to the Blue Max. I called Whites, and that was a waste of time. With the Blue MAX smaller coils I would be able to broaden this old dogs abilities in trashy areas and or use a lager coil for open plowed fields.

    Best Regards

i begin to do especial tester for a coil. it gives a resonance frequency of RX and TX part
      and helps the tuning.

        Don't know

As the classic II and IDX use the same board it cant be much.

I have seen the Classic III HP schematics which has different internal jumpers put have no idea what coil the HP used?

Ok, Does anyone have a CL II and a CL III schematic to compare, I've found a CL I but no CL III. I know they both have 6.59khz freq, It has to be something on the frontend of the recv circuit. Still no call back form Whites.

          • Later Classic I,II,III,ID and IDX were all built on the same PCB

Three versions are on these schematics

                  • Try this

                    http://md4u.ru/files2/Whites_PCB/ID-...505-0210-D.gif

Lots of info on the 505-0210-D PCB over on the md4u.ru website where most of the classic development was started

I have a classic I and he PCB has the same part number

Did see someone did the mods to run a bluemax coil 10 years ago but all the pictures and links are now dead. Could try posting on the whites forum. After all I don't think they are still made ?

Very similar to the one I posted on #203. I'm seeing a few differences, The old obsolete transistors Q1 and Q2 are replaced with newer models and the biasing has changed , but the main thing I noticed is the GB circuit did change. I don't think this will be a big issue to swap over to the newer coil now.

Yes I have posted on the Whites forum also. Thank you

                          • ground balance

                            IDX 2.2k to 27.2k

                            II 0 to 50k

I suspect if you put a bluemax on a Classic II it will just need the ground balance adjusted internal

I have tried the other way and round and Run out of adjustment. But it works fine if I add a 10K resistor

                            • And maybe change R43 if the disc is way out ?

I may just copy the IDX GB components to the CLII and upgrade Q1 and Q2. What couple dollars worth of parts and 2 hrs work. I'll just do it all when I do the Mr. Bill mods. Right now I'm working on a Tube amp so the bench is kind full.
