I own a modded Cibola with the stock 9X8, 5.75 DD&C. Is there somewhere to learn how to optimize the C? Would I benefit by upgrading any components to closer tolerance? Adding trimpots instead of resistors? I like the idea of a notch filter mod if it's feasible.
Would it be worth trying to RE the C, even with the mystery PROM chip? (have been practicing on a simple BFO circuit on another thread)
Why can I run the DD through my nail infested yard with hardly a peep, but both the concentrics go off like crazy even with the disc set high? Is this much difference normal? I'm thinking that I might need to tweak something because I seem to be finding tons of tabs & caps but few nickels unless I run about 20% disc... then, even MORE tabs.
Are there any detectors like the V&C that work as well (being fast and sensitive to gold & silver coins and jewelry) but don't love aluminum so much?
Hunting around the Seattle area, there isn't much left in the old coin department. I've only found a fraction of the silver coins that I expected to find, have done OK with silver jewelry but no gold. Disc issues, or the wrong detector??
I've put the hours in doing research and learning my detector, but I feel cheated when I see the annual tally by some of the guys online. 144 silver coins sounds WAY better than 27, and 4 gold rings in a summer sounds WAY better than 0.
Any tips that you can offer, or sources of info would be very much appreciated.
