  • Minelab Etrac/Explorer li ion power system

Ok, now I woud like to study this mod.
I would like to maintain the original battery holder and add in some lighter and powerful li-ion batteries.
What about 3 18650 cells (unprotected) with 11.1V PCB? The only problem is that with a diameter of 18mm will be hard to get them fit in the holder.
    Something like this:

    Any other idea?
    Thank You.

    Ok,
I made some progresses with my experiment.
I created the base to place my three 18650, get the PCB delivered, made the contacts (to the detector) and mounted them temporarely.
To gain space I had to cut the base and insert batteries...

I will add some balancing wire following the scheme I found on this forum.

I guess that wires that go to balancing will be soldered to the PCB, any can confirm?

I will use an IMAX b6 to balance/charging the pack...

      Ok. Mission accomplished.
I connected PCB to the batteries following the (PCB) producer scheme and balance leads to the batteries following the above scheme I found on this forum.
It fits well and works flawlessy. Now I have a nominal 3400 (mah) li ion system for my FBS detectors...
      Here are some shots:

It fits well and stay in place. In this shot my Expl II is turned on. I removed the battery cap just to not brake it during my tests...but now it is in place.

Thats a handy modification, how much longer do you expect out of the batterys?
I got the Quattro same battery set up as yours
