  • Single Cup Headphone Volume Pot installation help.

I have a great pair of Stanton DJ Pro 300 headphones that are single cup over the ear style. I'm currently using them with my X-Terra that has volume control but I'd like to put in their own volume pot. Any advice w/ diagram that I can use ? They have a stereo plug and I don't want to open them unless I'm 100% sure I can wire a volume pot into them and if I have the space inside so the pot must be small enough as well. Can any of you Geo members can help me out? Post here or drop me a message if you can and thanks to everyone here at Geotech. HH, Woodstock~Jeff

First, volume pots are almost aways log-taper. If they are stereo headphones (L & R) then you will either need 2 individual pots or a stacked pot (very difficult to find and may not fit), or you need to re-wire the headphones into mono. That said, a 1k log-taper pot is usually sufficient.

      Good advice Carl,
These have a stereo type plug and they play both right and left ( Stereo ) threw one cup. I used a pair as a DJ so I could hear requests in loud club environments and recording in a studio. They are like Rattler's missing the limiter and volume control. I never used the limiter a lot on my other detecting headphones so I'm not interested in installing a limiter but I thought a separate volume control on these would be nice.Stanton DJ PRO 300 Tech Specifications

      • Type: Closed
      • Frequency: 20Hz - 20kHz
      • Sensitivity: 100dB @ 0.2mW. 1kHz per channel
      • Impedance: 100ohm
      • THD: Less than 1/4% @ 1mW @ 1kHz
      • Power: 500mW max.
      • Net Weight: 200g

Here's some tech spec's. If your familiar with the Rattler's pod wiring it might give me a clue. I won't open then unless I know what I'm in for. Thanks for the other reply and I realize it was to vague. Happy Trails, Woodstock

OK, I understand now... probably they have a simple combiner so that you hear L+R in one speaker. As such, adding a volume pot should be easy to figure out. Can't help any further without seeing the inside.

I've noted splash proof earbuds from panasonic that made me thinking into this direction. Some lil' box with a potentiometer to plug these in. Minimum tinkering over replaceable OTS accessory.
