  • Underwater connector

    Hi All,

After some search, I believe these connectors should suit well underwater MD constraints, and they can be filled with epoxy once welded (no crimper tool required)

Please give feedback if working well.

I'm in the process of sourcing some new waterproof connectors & cable assemblies. They are "M12" style 12mm connectors, same as what Minelab is putting on the CTX-3030. By summer I hope to have them available for experimenters to order.

I used to test some Redline WiMAX base stations that came with some sort of industrial Ethernet connectors that were properly sealed. Those babies were also powered through the same cables. Maybe that's the way to go underwater.

I think the trick is to epoxy around the wires, the name of the game is to avoid any water infiltration inside the wires.

To be more specific, you need to strip the wire on a limited length, to apply the epoxy around every wire in the conductor, is this case even if the water get inside the connector, water cannot follow the wire between the wire and its insulator. Yes the detector will give wrong signal (due to resistance between the connector poles) but you will avoid electronic controller to be flooded by water.
