  • Has anyone modded an Outlaw?

There are some annoying features on this, one being the functionality that locks onto targets in motion mode, the other the "retune" functionality. I have other Tesoros and they are both more stable without having to "retune", than the Outlaw is when you've just "retuned" it. Tesoros being mod friendly, sure someone has played around with this.

I think the problem is Tesoro used a 3 position push button switch. They should have just kept the all metal/ Disc toggle and a pushbutton for pinpointing.
So this confuses Tesoro owners when they decide to buy an Outlaw.

That's definitely not it. The Explorer 2 and explorer se have this functionality as well.

The Outlaw retunes through the motion mode, non-motion is not affected. That's two things annoying when you're using the motion mode, has two separate functions attached to it outside of it being motion all metal. Many people are confused with this and think that motion isn't working properly or they don't understand it, but when you understand how it's behaving, there is no confusion, regardless whether you access it through the switch or the push button.

Then I misunderstood what you had originally posted. As I never handled an Outlaw. But have heard others had problems getting used to the push button.
I myself am a Tesoro fan, had more than my share. Just didn't feel like the Outlaw had much more to offer over the other models, so I never bought one.

Other models are plain better, my Golden and Compadre go slightly deeper and are a lot quieter, without needing a retune. With power balance, they go even deeper as you can't power balance the Outlaw.

Pinpoint, can you elaborate a little more on this "lock on targets in motion mode". That one sentence has me very curious. I have never heard it put that way but experience that very often. Some think i'm crazy when I explain it and some say it's user error. Please explain this to me a little more in depth as I need to get a better understanding of it. Was it a design flaw? Was it intentional? Some have never got theirs to do it. Also, how do you powerbalance a Compadre or a Golden? I thougth they were factory set GB? Fred in Ma.
