Whites classic I, II, III non sl older pre 950 coil

Im curious about the older Whites classic's. How do they compare to the newer 90's vintage sl version with the 950 coil ?
Do the same modifications apply ? Looks like they would be fun to put in a water proof case for hip mount and water edge usage.

Coil 950 is not designed for the old classics, but I've seen the opposite. But I do not know how he did it. Range is very good in the air.
