Hello all, I wonder if anyone can help me out. I use a Teknetics G2 (I think its the same as a Fisher Goldbug), the detector is a great detector, on most of my sites i can run it at full sensitivity and its very stable, but i feel astho i could do with more, is there any way of upping the sens ie replacing the potentiometer or maybe is there an adjustment on the PCB ? Regards Jim.

you can begin to do experiment with coils NEL or MARS TIGER. to do a mod - have you a schematic? not. so why you ask?
no pics of hight resolution, no schematic, no part list, NOTHING of info and you hope on something????
sell this chinese crap, buy xTerra 75 or Deus and close this matter. no decision.

NEL TORNADO 12"x13" is ultralight and improves the deeply depth. now at ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coil-NEL-Tor...ht_2003wt_1150

I think improves. can you visit their sites and ask them? (not me)

Well, the need of the thread strarter is more depth.
In the real world, the nel and the detech we are talking about do not offer great depth improvement on the G2/Gbug. In case of the nel, it's less than one inch in air, the Detech is slightly over an inch,so taking in account the larger amount of soil both larger coils will have to handle, and despite the GB function, the difference with (the much better shaped) original 11"DD coil from First Texas is negligible, and offer just -maybe (questionable if used intrashy sites)- ground coverage advantages. Not always;
There are laws of physics that have been ruling for decades regarding search coils, and they still have happy days plans for the future.
Not to mention both manufacturers making "family pizza" sized coils for detectors deprived of any kind of ground balance settings.
So, both coils offer the thread starter a minimal advantage in depth, but the demand was about modding the sensitivity., which, thinking of the machine, is not really a good idea, he should use the AM setting instead.

You need to do research or compair before recommending coils friend. I already have a Tornado 13x12 and it makes virtually no difference to depth! I was only asking if there was an easy a just ment to give so more sensitivity! As i feel the detector is restricted regarding sensitivity. I also have a Etrac but need a detector with faster recovery thats the reason i have a G2. No don't recomend a Deus, if any i think its going to be a goldmaxx power v4 with 11" coil next.

I agree that other coils on this detector make no differance to depth only better coverage. I have been using this detector with no discrimination at all. IMO you need to use the meter to help identify the targets on the G2 sounds can be misleading. The large read out is a great feature on this tector but if used in AM mod the signal only show up on the top small scale, large numbers are GB readings.

I can follow you on the ID feature in AM. But I also think the unit is factory built/set hot, so that improving the gain could turn the detector into a pretty unstable unit. But I do not know of a G2 user that beefed up the gain, so it's maybe worth trying. But I haven't got a clue as to how to do this.
When I need additional depth, as a last resort I put the unit in AM, the Ground Balance manually between 0 and 10, and have a go. The ID isn't accurate of course, but I can ID the deeper targets by ear, the difference between ferrous and non ferrous targets is obvious. But if you are more specific in TID -based digging choices, this won't work either.
Sorry I couldn't help further.
