  • Tesoro De Leon Changing Audio Pitch

    Hello guys and gals,
right now I'm going to get some hearing troubles. Falling in this offending noise range is the audio pitch from the De Leon. Just using headphones with volume control ain't e real help. So what I'd like to do is changing the audio pitch of the detector.
Beeing very familiar with electronics it will be no problem to change a resistor or capacitor.
But it will be a problem if the audio is done via software in a micro-controller. Using the "search" here brought no result on this.

So I'm asking the community for help.

May be there is another detectorist out there who had the same problem and got a solution.

Well there are possibilities for the audio on that machine. As no schematic is to be found
we would need pictures of the PC board to start determining how we could mod it for
    different audio.

The Cibola is probably somewhat similar. There is 2 schematics of it showing the micro
based unit and (I think) a customized version for the home builder.

Hmm I cannot upload an image right now. I'll give it a try later at home...

Oh it has a LCD, then it probably has a micro for sound and you probably cannot do much with it.

is that the same model as the laser hawkeye?, if so there are some schematics(partial) floating around the net.

            Hello Sinclairuser,
yes, the hawkeye is the UK version of the De Leon. Different face and added backlite. Would be nice if there are a few known links guiding to.?

            Thanks for all responses.

Asked Tesoro's technical suport for help. May be they're willing to help so I can use this machine for another couple of years.

I don't think Tesoro will do much other than suggest a different machine with better audio.
I've been thinking about those voice changers that make your voice lower or higher. If you
intercept the audio and change it you might be able to hear it better...

The DeLeon uses a micro to generate the audio tones. You can't easily change them.

That said, I once put a higher frequency crystal in a Sandshark to speed up the pulse delay and it had the side-effect of increasing the audio pitch. So, it may be possible to change the DeLeon crystal to change the audio, but it would probably mess up performance and would certainly mess up the ground balance calibration. It would turn into a huge effort to correct the side effects.

An engineered solution might be to design a frequency-to-voltage converter and use it to drive a voltage-to-frequency converter. I'll guess that this will create a target response latency.

Man, that thing looks ugly like me. Hahaha. This and me sweeping a detector would make people rofl, for sure. But thanks for that, Silver Dollar, it's a nice idea.

Thanks for your reply, Carl. A response delay is not acceptable. Reminds me to a blue-tooth headset, very terrible. Think it can be done very close to no latency, but the more I think about this I decide not be hanging to this detector any longer.
On the other hand, changing the micro's clock without changing other clock-rates, if possible, could do it.

No, changing the micro clock changes everything. There are several detectors out there with adjustable audio pitch.

Thanks Carl. That's what was supposed.
