I've noticed more forum chat about them recently. Over on Tom Dankowski's Forum, respected US detectorist Keith Southern has taken one for a spin. In his YouTube video, he seems impressed by the recovery speed, likes the tone-break audio, and thinks the price of it is good for the performance. It clearly has mechanical build-quality problems, and is also a bit small. The meter is a pointless feature.
I can see the merit to reverse-engineering it. There's got to be some improvements that can be made to it, for example increasing the sensitivity, and it would be interesting to see if other search-coils like DD's, would work. Maybe it's compatible with better quality coils from another manufacturer?
And there's always the intellectual curiosity element. Maybe there's a circuit function that could be incorporated into other machines. It doesn't have any microcontrollers in it, which makes it easy to study.

I am really surprised Keith has taken up trying out a China made detector and reporting about it on Tom D's forum. Surprised he didn't get any backlash, negative comments from all those on the forum that hate China products. Because of his post I am sure lots of the forum members will just have to run out and buy one........he says it doesn't appear to be a knock-off of a US made detector.
Nigel in the UK bought one last winter and did a comprehensive video(s) about it to show what it can do. https://www.youtube.com/user/sftatat/videos
