  • Coinmaster 3000 mods/specs/info

Hello, I'm completetly new to this forum, metal detecting and electronics. Total newbie, but I'm eagerly studying everything I can. I started with a Whites CM 3000D, used it for a few days until the speaker broke, now I'm repairing it with a man who has been fixing tvs, radios, xray machines and more for about 40 years, so he is my mentor in electronics now.

Turns out the potentiometer for disc was broken so were replacing it, along with all the capacitors and the speaker. First of all I'd appreciate as much technical info on this model as possible, in order to expand my understanding of metal detectors. (Is it a vlf?, schematics?, specs?, ground penetration depth?, etc) anything.

Secondly I'd like to know if it is possible to make modifications to this detector in order to upgrade it to a more advanced unit of the coinmaster series or any other upgrade possible, and if so plans and schematics, detailed procedures or anything to make it work more efficiently. As I said, I am a total newbie so details are highly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Welcome.

All things are possible it's just a matter of how much you wish to spend, both in terms of time and money.

If you want a good cheap start, then go for the Silverdog IDX kit. Once you have learned to solder properly this will give you a fantastic machine with loads of potential for "tweaks". CM3000 is also a good place to start.

Looking at the diagram below a good place to start would be to go to the part where is says "TUNE" and change the 6K8 to say a 68K or even 200K or higher and solder the RETUNE switch closed (bridge across). This will give you a permanent slow return similar to a motion machine. You WILL lose a little depth, but the machine will be far more usable. You could EVEN put a 1M pot in SERIES with the existing 6K8 to give you a variable return time. Apart from that not much else to do except maybe increase gain value in the DC stages, but I imagine this would lead to more noise and problems. The watch word is SMALL CHANGES, if you go for huge increses you will end up with an unstable machine. You want it to just be "chattering" slightly with no metal present.

There is no point in looking at adding a ground balance as this machine does not support the feature. Adding a phase shift at the front end will merely mess up the discriminate control settings. You would have to add a second channel to achieve ground balance.

From the schematic it looks like an old IB TR. I suspect it is up around 36KHz, maybe higher, but I could be wrong.

If you call Whites they are VERY helpful with respect ot things lik that so I can only take a guess where as they will be able to provide a definitive answer.

KT315 I don't think the CM can be modded to 6000 or anything close (looking at the schematic AND assuming it is correct) again though, I might be wrong.

WOW!! I like that Modded Daytona...WANT ONE!!

Of course simply putting new guts in the box is one way of doing things, as I said it's all down to how much you want ot spend, how much time you have and how much you know about detector design (Not a problem if you are KT315 - Der "Modmeister") .

My signature has gone but it used to say, "If it isnt broken, it isn't modded enough!

Actually, I think (reading the other posts) that Sven is the one who did the mods.
