External delay pot surf

I've read on another post about changing the delay trimmer for an external
pot. I'm interested in the pros and cons. I understand a suitable fast coil is needed
to take advantage of any speed increases. Would this mod inadvertently push any components
too far? I also read about the change of a resistor from 15 down to 5 alongside this mod.
id be very interested in opinions from people far more experienced
than myself.

so after looking at the board and the parts list i think its r25
i am getting a avarage signal on my gold wedding ring at 11 inchs and a strong signal at 10 inchs pritty decent i think so is there any need to do this mod
the thing i love about this detector is how simple it is and my son loves it to set and forget
these setting are with the delay trim scewed all the way in clockwise if i was to replace r25 with a 10k and leave the delay trim in would i be able to gett a little more out of the detector
