Makro Racer ( & Nokta Impact ) Pinpointing-Mode ON-OFF-Switch

Pinpointing Mode Always On!

When the switch is set to: "pinpoint always on", the Makro Racer
or Nokta Impact will senses the weakest signal differences which
improves the usual motion-mode vibration sensitivity enormous!
Of course pinpointing is all-metal-mode but for maximum depth
and highest sensitivity its better to search in this mode anyway.

It adds a little switch to the push-pull trigger (Macro Racer: red & brown cable)

Untouched this trigger is in motion-mode and it pinpoints while pulled.

The added switch connects "pinpointing" or leaves the trigger disconnected.
Its a usual left-right switch with 3 connections.
Solder the red and brown cable to either the middle and left pin or middle and right pin.
This way the switch connects - disconnects the 2 cables.
( Hell, to what people I'm talking - who reads here surely is no bloody rookie! )


Nevertheless - there is some safety-warning:

Don't push the trigger (this sets the Makro Racer or Nokta Impact into ground-balancing-mode)
while the new added switch is set to pinpointing-mode or it might creates some shortcut or whatever.
Probably it just causes some harmless error but better don't risk it.
(with a 6pin switch its possible to disconnect the black cable while
the red and brown is connected, but this its a little bit more effort)

And don't switch the detector ON if the switch is set to Pinpointing-Mode.
Also don't open the device if you like to keep the warranty service intact.


Anyway - if you wanna hunt with vibration, this is THE absolute perfect modification
for you because that way your finger must not pull all the time the trigger for
maximum sensitivity. Just melt some little hole inside the black plastic-housing with
the soldering-iron to attach the switch there and make it as waterproof as possible.

For setting the Impact or Racer to maximum pinpoint sensitivity simply lift the coil
more or less over the ground so the vibration is almost off and pull the trigger.
Test a bit which is the best distance (= pinpointing sensitivity), but no big deal.
If you hold the coil into the air and pull the pinpoint-trigger you might get the
highest sensitivity at all, but this is too high if the coil comes close to the ground.

However, the detector will remember the signal-ratio-value as long as the trigger
remains pulled and also if the modification-switch is set to "pinpoint mode on".


This modification is done within ca. 2 hours and it's easy! Good luck, enjoy the pics!

The Impact has a non-motion all-metal mode, which is basically 'permanent pinpoint' operation. So no need for changes to it.

This mode is very sensitive indeed, I have it on my Fisher F75, I use it often. For large, deep targets, it is very effective. When there is long grass, and you can't get the coil close to the ground and swing properly, it can help you find a target. Once you've found it, you can then squash grass flat etc and try and get a decent swing over the area. And in old woodland, I often dig all targets, so can use the maximum sensitivity of this mode to find targets that would normally be out of range.

One tip: if you are searching with the coil well above the ground (10 to 30 cm), make sure you have the ground balance set correctly at that coil height. It will be a 'low' GB value, significantly towards the 'salt' setting.

Very often use the Whites DFX in that mode observing the two graphs and numbers makes it a deep and fairly accurate detector both on land and beach

That mode even is able to detect cavity if the ground-balance changes at "good" enough mineralized soil:
The weak vibration or pretty quiet audio-threshold vanishes if there is cavity or some meteorites
(including other special mineralized stones, often grey-blue color) while it raises if there is metal.

And its perfect for heavy electro-smog areas! I found a little silver coin directly under high-voltage-lines
with it and some 13cm long and 8mm thick ripped off fork-tip 35cm buried - all with vibration and the
sensitivity (gain) was only around 50. With vibration and music or audiobooks etc. the whole digging
also is much more motivating - especially if some hoard-recovery or deeper stuff takes a lot time.

Because the thing is: If work is hard, boring and starts to suck, the mind begins with "negative thoughts".
But if it is distracted by positive or pleasureful things like music or entertainment, it remains in good mood!


btw. searching with the coil 15-20cm above the ground also
is very useful to discriminate all the small stuff intentionally:

Because with the non-motion mode the coil makes the detector vibrate
or giving an audio signal as long as it is inside of the effective-metal object EM-field.
The larger the spherical shape the coil can describe, the larger and sometimes
also the deeper the object is. Not to compare with a very short motion-mode beep.

Another such "recognize the size"-trick is to check how "sharp" are the borders
from detection to no longer detection: For small objects that range is pretty tight.
