  • Need help modifying a Golden Sabre.

I have an original GS that I want to turn into a water hunter/all 'round backup machine. I have a Lexan case for it & will have the controls accessable from the outside. Problem is, I'd like to have a bit more control over the machine. At present it's a silent search machine w. ID 90 disc. & fast autotune. I'd like to add a variable threshold, 180 disc., & (no motion?) slow autotune. I have a suspicion that these mods, for the most part, would cosist of a simple replacement of a fixed value component with a variable one. Unfortunately, I don't know which ones & what values. Regarding my choice of machine..it's old, easy to work on, & the performance is still comparable with today's detectors. Scoff if you want, but I've tested it against a number of nice units & it holds it's own. I also think that it would make for a superlative (freshwater) water hunter. At present my main machine is an MXT w. 5x10" DD w. 1yr left on the warranty, which makes me leery of playing around with it's innards. Can anyone give me hand? Thanks...Will.

I think the answer to your request can be answered simply from an economic slant, the cost of adding the extra channels not to mention the hang on board to house the cicuitry would render the project no more than a long cold winter time consumer.
However the idea is admirable and think you will find that the Golden Sabre2 would fit your needs to a tee.
