  • Explorer SE with Excelerator Eq2 Pro 14" Coil

    Hello everybody!

Couple of days ago a friend gave me a Minelab Explorer SE that he bought on a flee market..The detector is "booting" normally but it has a lot of erratic sounds,i must admit i have zero experience at Minelab's...

Taking a closer look found the cables on the coil side broken and with duct tape...Searching the web i found the original "spiral cable" that connects the coin to the detector...little pricey..

I took measurements of the coil resistance and one coil windings had 2 different values. One coil 6.3 Ohms and other coil 1.8 Ohms should it be that way?

I took RG171 and soldered 2 separate wires for the two separate coils. Wired and soldered as it was.

When i open the cover to check the connector for continuity i saw a transistor (Q504) on the power supply board near the speaker connector that has been replaced..The one on the detector now id the BC337,is this the right one?

Those resistances do match up to the information I have in a file.
6.1 to 6.3 ohms for Rx
1 to 1.3 ohms for tx.
The cable has some small resistance.(included in above measurements)
The connector pin assignments I don't know. However, there is Rx main, Rx shield. Tx main, tx shield.(not sure about order or pin assignments) pin 5 not used.
I'm sure someone on forum will know more.
It is likely that the transistor belongs to the tx oscillator circuit, which must have been damaged previous( you noted duct tape on broken wires to the coil).
Or it could be part of the audio driver circuit.

Hello , i dont quite understand what you mean..The coil does have the extra protection covers yes..
