    Don't know... something is fishy in this behavior.
    Seems like picking up too much noise.
    From time to time seems erratic.
    No GEB on front panel.
    I am afraid that a lot of labor is waiting for me here...

      Maybe some leakage on PCB, by dust and dirty collected over time.

        Lot of dust inside.
        Dry mud at corners of box!?
        Like it was sunk into a mud!
        I cleaned all with nitro, washed good.

            Seems so. Last photo shows the mud.
            Now is kinda working more stable.
            Or is just my imagination under the influence of what i saw inside?
            I let it be and test it again tomorrow.
            But what really surprises me is the coil.
            TX= 21.1 ohms / 6.38mH
            RX= 22.9 ohms / 6.20mH
            ...
            uPC is PIC16C74B-04/p, crystal is 3.58MHz.
            ...
            It says "Cortes Rev 2" on a pcb.
            ...
            Funny! Lot of news for me!

              You can breath to PCB through some small pipe, if no big difference noticed than all ok.

                I have here Bandido II uMax with coil:
                TX= 22.2 ohms / 5.58mH
                RX= 23.2 ohms / 6.26mH

                So i hooked up that coil on De Leon.
                Works almost the same, same performances in air.
                Almost the same behavior on targets as on video.
                But only VDI numbers goes a bit higher.
                Gold ring was VDI 17-19 and now is 28-35.
                And all other targets VDI moves up respectively.
                ...
                Will have to dig out which one from those trimmers is GEB.
                It is hard to trace this, too many wild wires around, looks viable to crack and move from a soldering spot.
                This needs labor. To draw each wire place on paper. Just in any case.
                I hate this!
                Too much mileage under my hood... kinda tired of such things.

                  I think i solved the problem.
                  All 4 pins on one side of LM393 were covered with dry acid salty layers.
                  As well as SMD capacitor above it, totally covered and "masked" by "salt".
                  So i washed that area good, with nitro. Now is shiny and clean.
                  By now detector behaves correct.
                  Will see tomorrow.

                    Great post!
                    Do you have any Tesoros to sell?

                      Sorry not at the moment.
                      I am having Toltec II and Bandido II uMax as my own detectors.
                      De Leon is just in short visit, to be fixed. Today it returns to its owner.
                      I would like to collect some of those Tesoros too.
                      But i prefer small enclosures, so i'll focus only on Tesoros with small enclosures.
                      Maybe i will put on sale Toltec II later.
                      Or exchange for something else.

                        Always wondered how can you take your hands on so many different metal detectors

                        Please post more of this detector if possible! I was thinking of the program from the Pic to copy it, maybe it would possible to rewrite it to produce several different tones like the Golden?

                          It is easy when you service so many detectors in years. People do come and go. Sometimes they want to sale their detectors. Sometimes to exchange.
                          It's like tv or radio servicing (also did in the deep past), you meet lot of models during the career of servicer.
                          I don't know what to post more on De Leon. I didn't traced it out. Not having its schematic.
                          But from what i could see when observed its pcb; i see recognizable Tesoro basics.
                          It's just like Bandido, extended with more "ironmongery", more rich channels and probably the part where signals from channels are "buffered" and shaped to suit PIC inputs.
                          Several different tones are done in PIC. No big deal.
                          I would rather pay all my focus on something newer, like Vaquero or Tejon.
                          Cibola is similar. But recently i heard complains that Cibola drains battery very fast, don't know why is that. Probably one 9V battery is not enough.
                          I've seen Vaquero in action for several times. It is excellent machine. Tejon i saw once, it is also excellent machine.
                          So if you want best of Tesoro; look up for those two models.

                            There are many on ebay, I wish to have one original Tesoro with the 8 inch coil. How much is the current draw of the De Leon? The best I could get with my TGSL was 28.8mA.

                            There is a nice TS1000 coil on sale for now in the UK if you are interested, I can send you the link. Regards

                              I am ready to give up and sell Toltec II which is almost in mint state, also with 8 inch coil.
                              You can contact me via email [email protected] if you are interested.
                              Unfortunately i haven't measured current draw at De Leon.
