  • Handheld Security-Detector Mod 2020

This cheap China detector with all-metal-motion circuit and 13cm / 5inch coil
now has got an audio-jack for headphones (or for my external vibration) but
it also meanwhile has got a hole in the middle to stick the end of a pole to it.

I've bended the plastic over with the help of a hot oven-plate so the part
with the electronics and battery no longer scratches over the ground and
to become directly the right angle for the pole. This doesn't concerns the
sensitivity of the detector, because it is a motion-circuit and only reacts
if the coil or metal has some movement. The sensitivity is still the same,
for some frying pan it is ca. 20cm / 8inches, bottle cap is 5cm / 2 inches.
The smallest stuff it can find is 1cm / 1/2 inch in size, if very close to coil.

Including 9v battery the whole thing just weights 400 grams. So this Mod
is perfect for a journey - find a wooden branch and it's ready for the hunt.

And now get some cheap hand-held security detector and bend it over!

Glass-fibre or carbon-fibre tubes can be obtained very cheaply. One use is in stunt kites, another is for camping tent frames, no doubt many other uses. With some joining pieces, you could make a portable rod, example 2 x 35cm lengths.
I have some glass rods from a tent that was abandoned in woodland by kids.. and I fly kites, so have some spare bits and pieces that are handy for these fun projects.

You need to make a radio transmitter for it, example FM broadcast band 107.8 MHz or 87.8 MHz, then it can be cordless.

The tip with the fiber-rods is cool, at the moment I'm using an alu-ski stick for it.
Some of them can get "sticked inside them" to 1/2 or 1/3 of their original lenght.

For cable-free, there also exists the possibility with wireless headphones dongles.
And simply put some 3-5 liter food-freezing-plastic-bag over it, if it starts raining.
