Guys I've had this detector several years and while it still runs fine I've been laying off installing a push button switch on it to change modes . Right now the mode changes between the ground balance all metal side and the discrimination side are controlled by a 2 position toggle switch . I would like to install a momentary push button switch in the end of the handle to make switching much easier . I did contact the current owner of Nautilus detectors to try to get some help but he said he would have to look over the circuitry blueprints and get back with me which he never did . It doesn't seem to me it would be a big deal to run a couple wires and solder a switch in but I dont want to start blindly . Maybe some of you tech heads could give some insight . I have attached some pics for clarification .

Something like this should suit your purpose:

Generally on a SPDT switch the center pole is the common. All that you are going to do is ring out your new switch with a meter (or look at the diagram) to confirm functionality and bring the new wires back to the existing switch point and re-splice.
You should also note that you are not going to use a momentary switch as what you need is a maintained connection.

I know just what you need. Look for the follow up article for the Magnum metal locater. It describes a modification whereby you can switch between different modes electronically, by way of a pushbutton switch installed in the tip of the handle. There is a small PCB add on board layout provided and a schematic for the circuit. It can be used to do precisely what you want.

can you throw pics in HR, of the board, on the wires montage, etc? on email. tia. [email protected]

Not a good idea to be running signal wires up and down the length of the handle outside of the box housing the electronics. Those wires connected to that switch you see inside the box are carrying signals that are in the signal path of the metal detector circuit. Any switching occuring outside of the box should be done remotely ( electronically). By using a combination of nand gates(4011) and a quad bilateral switch (4016), you can make a remote push button switch that will toggle between the two modes.
You'll end up with a momentary push button switch on the handle with just two wires going back to the logic board.
