  • Removing the White paint on ML circuit boards

The magic word is Deanol DMAE , the stuff they use to treat arthritis, dissolve DMEA into Methyl Alcohol, don?t go crazy with it as it eats plastic as well. Test it first as the coating may of been formulated differently over the years.

dry soda blasting does remove it enough to do repairs, but i wouldn't try it on a working unit just to see the bare boards.
i thought this machine had been replicated years ago anyway?.

The first paintstripper i picked from the store removes the white paint. It takes a bit of practice but works excellent.

Don't use paint stripper! Just don't!!!
I recently fixed up a 2200 that the owner had removed the paint with paint stripper and it corroded a lot of things. I had to replace quite a few ic's. Good thing he didn't attack the audio board with it.
The simplest way to remove the paint, hot air, flat screwdriver and toothpick, then clean up the remainder with some harsh chemicals and a cotton tip.
Even soda blasting is pretty harsh. If you get too excited the resistors change value!

                        Cheers Mick

Before using the paint stripper i had dipped capacitors and resistors in a small pot with the paint stripper to see if any defects on the components may occur. Left them for several hours without any visual defects. After that i dipped one plain pcb without components and left it for several hours again no deffects. I was sure nothing will go wrong and used on a sd2200 stripped every small bit of the white paint. The bad side is its smells terribly bad, and the board itself must be covered in folio otherwise the stripper goes bad in 15 mins. It works x2 faster if left under direct sunlight. I used it on a Gpx5000 board in part where the connectors of the coil are again total success. The funny part is that tbe chinese gpx clone had white paint too which came out in 15 mins for the whole board while minelab boards take a day of stripping and scrubbing the paint so its quite exausting if uou want to clean the whole board. So the chinese cant even get that right... haha

Mick mechanic... i would like to open you a secret... small secret.. this white paint of minelab is having in a base the epoxy.
i did not keep the SD2200 board in hand but i know this sure. so we probably must use word WHITE ML EPOXY, in the occasion.

Here in the USA, to treat arthritis, they used DMSO (not Deanol DMAE and/or DMEA), which DMSO is a commercial cleaning fluid. I presume that Deanol DMAE is a foreign name for DMSO fluid.

Now I do not know what your fluid will do in regard to a coating on top of commercial chips. I know what DMSO does in regard to human flesh! Test it carefully, and make sure you fully wash your hands and fingers. DMSO has a chemical that causes IMMEDIATE flow into the fingers and hands, right in and through the flesh tissues, to and into blood vessels. So be careful with it as it is not a toy!!!
