  • Help with potentimeter

Have an older detector that has a bad DISCrimination pot and sensivity pot. The orig. values are 250k, what would happen if the values are changed to either 100 or 500K ???

Have another detector with a bad 10K pot.
    Thank you

Depends on how the pot is used in the circuit. The 100k or 500k might work with a reduced disc range (100k) or extra unusable range (500k), or it might mess up the disc circuitry completely. Jameco has standard pots for $1.19, including 250k.

Did you try a place like MCM Electronics? Some pots can be disassebled, cleaned, and repaired...is that an option? A lot of time just spraying them doesn't do the trick. If it's a pot that can be repaired, sometime just a little oxidation causes the problem.....a good eraser does the trick followed by a little alcohol on a swab.

Just a little of my electronics training oozing out!
