"2. why you do not wish use AVR or PIC chip for the division?

ivconic, how is this idea for you? it is known that classic
has good sens in All metall mode, but low sens in Disc. bad
thing... so we change these roles here - pinpointing channel
now will work on full power, but discriminates..."

KT315 Yes it is one step forward in electronics, but I am
absolute beginner in AVR or PIC stuff.I do not know nothing
about programming those mCpus....yet.I'been doing some
devices with a PIC but with software, somebody else writted.

About idea...I absolutelly agree with U. I also have Garrett
GTI 2500, CSCOPE 1220B, White's Eagle IIc and Pulsestar II...
But making and experimenting only with my handmade CL3.Why...
simply, it is good, simple, cheap(i used scrap material to build
it)and very easy to understand how it works. When comparing
CL3 with mentioned models it is almost good as others.Advantage
is of its simplicity in handling on the field and there are fields
where I can not risk to take with me expensive models like Garrett.
About mod.Well...interesting. But I focused on tone extending.
In most of the cases on the field I do not mind about DISC.
It is itchy...very itchy when I get a strong signal somewhere
deep in the field where I do not presume a lot of scrap to find,
so I dig almost ever, and use ALL Metal mode mostly.
Very important point is good GROUND BALANCE, reducing false
signals. And a rich poliharmonic sound. CSCOPE 1220b is a good
example of aparatus with a good sound. But the inner construction
of the aparatus is quite different so I can not use that metod
of generating sound and apply as a change on CL3.Bad luck!
According to Your latest post, it seems that You have and know already
everything about CL3, so I can not offer U something new....
simply U know more than me.
About cd4060...with its divided outputs U can try to find the
nearest suitable quartz U need. If its does not mach 100%, well
no body's perfect !Ha.. But still U have a wide variety of
possibilities, U may try other coils...U may adjust freq. of
aparatus to work fine with some good comercial coil from
another company. I managed to marry CL3 with CSCOPE DD coil and
it's working very good. Now I am adjusting for using with
Garrett Scorcher coil I have.U may add a trimm.capacitor on
one side of quartz a try to pull freq. a bit.
    regards

    Another oscillator idea !!!!
    KT315
I almost forgot this. When experimenting with various oscillators
on CL3 i founded something very funny!
I made a function generator with XR2206.On the output i put
a 2 transistors as in CL3 project. When I put sinus in the coil
it works fine, exact as original CL3 oscillator, but......
when I PUT QUADRATURE shaped signal in the coil...it works
30% better!!!! with no changes in the output buffer!?
XR2206 gives U no problem finding exact quartz. It is very
stabile, and gives U possibilities to adjust freq linear also
amplitude of signal, threshold, modulation(in this case not worth),
but this only affects sinus, quadrat is clear and U can only
adjust freq. on it.Instead of coil, just for experiment U can
plug a speaker and hear tone and all the changes U provoke
    with adjustements.
So at the end I am thinking to make another CL3, but this time
with XR2206 as a freq.generator, with external knobs for adjusting
    all mentioned before.Experimenting never ends...
Only thing I still did not managed is the tone....@@~*^%*^%$$@&*@ !!!
    regards to all...
.....Why Fisher use a low freq.quartz and than divide with 4024?
4024 I do not like! That IC has a strange behavior in some cases.
4046 is another mismach when using in these aplications, trust me!
Dividing higher freq. quartz with 4060 or using XR2206 maybe produce
a lot of harmonics but those harmonics are easy to deal with, later
in the output buffer.Low freq. quartz like 70khz or 40khz still
have harmonics even worse in some areas.Only answer is that Fisher
count on the fact that certain quartz are impossible to find on the
market. Just think on quartz in CZ5.Very often it is happening that
that quartz is broken somehow on the field.(I know a few cases).
About XR2206...well I do not know...still under experiment...
Working...
