      Surfmaster II Mods

Here’s what you do to increase the sensitivity of the Surfmaster II VLF unit.

Replace resistor #R7, that most likely is 100 ohms with one that is 51 ohms. This will drive the coil a tad bit stronger. This is off of the MPS3638A #Q1 transistor.

Go find resistor #R24, that’s connected right off the sensitivity control at the board. That resistor will most likely be 470k ohms. We want to change this to a higher value. I usually use a 2.2m ohm here, but in some cases it’s a bit on the strong side. Perhaps a little trial and error may be in order ??

This should improve your unit noticeably. Have fun.

Yes I still do work on them.

There are no newer models. Whites stop manufacturing them.
