I bought a used Relco Frontiersman in the early 70's for $10. I was taken. The guy who sold me this BFO was probably laughing all the way home. I threw it in the trash to prevent pain to others.
Lots of distinuished BFOs from this era and this detector was not one of them.

Another simple BFO was the Relco “Coin Ranger”.

          Old Relco

Hello! I still have one of these in the garage somewhere - the tuning was done with a ferrite slug in a coil, at one time available for crystal radio sets as an "AM Loopstick Antenna." It all worked much like my BFO kit from EICO, and seemed unstable in the same way - the threaded fitting on the loopstick was worn and wobbly! I saw ads for Relco in Frontier Times/True West magazines in the 1960's as well as ads for the first Garrett machines. I'll look in the garage this weekend for the wooden suitcase that contains the Relco and it's instructions ...

They haven't been in business since the 1980's. Good thing their detectors were junk.
