I've got a chance to buy a Whites Classic III Plus. I wanted to make it into a fresh water detector. The old classics use 3 9v batteries. My question is does anyone know if it can be converted to run off a 8AA batery pack. Physical size is no issue. Rob

A tip...
I was tired of replacing those 9v batt. all the time...So i took one 6V / 1.3A accu. and made voltage trippler to 18 volts. On the output i put "splitter" with LM358 to gain digital ground and symetrical power supply....Audio stage i connected directly to 18 volts through one 7809 regulator....And that's all!!!
This accu last over the 3 days on the field since Classic III (handmade) consume approx. 25 to 45 mA, dependable of working conditions....
It showed as very usefull and good idea at the end!
If any help than i'll be glad....

I have to prepare it since do not have in electronic form just on a plain paper...I'll do that in a few days.No problem.
Classic series use symetrical pow.supply +9v/-9v and separate 9v for audio,which makes 3 9v batt's...
Although this setup is much useable for other machines too...
see ya in a few days...regards

Hi , I use one schematic for long time and it satisfy my requirements for many voltages.Attached Files

Seeker you omited values...?
Here is schematic of trippler i used. L1 could be a problem. You must use 40mm ferrite ring, otherwise Q3 can be very hot if smaller is used.Although once i managed somehow to make one with 32mm diamm. and TIP110 remained calm with 80mA power consumption from detector....
That's how i supply my Classic III and CScope 1220B also, with one 6V 1.3Ah accu.....

Hi Ivconic , sorry for my mistake, I draw schematic from my pad and watch TV. On the pictures are two variants. For up to 100mA and up to 1A.Attached Files
