    Hi,

does someone knows the manufacturer of these potentiometers? These potis are used in some of the metal detectors made by Eric Foster. See picture below.

Unfortunately due to digital controllers, pots are in low demand thus the high prices. It's hard to find a potentiometer on any modern metal detector.

It seems that Vishay is not interested to sell their potentiometers because they are f***king expensive.... If they would sell them cheaper people would buy them for sure but at that pricing not many people will buy it. I guess we need to wait until China throw similar cheaper potentiometer into the market. Then maybe Vishay wakes up... but then it is too late...

These are made by Bournes. Their proper name is Knob-Pots. They can be found at industrial supply houses. I am pretty sure Granger has them BUT As with most Granger products They Ain't Cheap!!!

As a personal coment on the topic:
If one is not a mass producer, it is worth to use such pots. If these kind of potentiometers were sold in a single units and were mass spreaded, I would definitely buy to use them in a single hand-made device, regardless of price...
The quality of each component is of a great importance, when one aim to get the most out of the current project made - the quality of the whole device depends on the quality of the worst part, embeded in it ...
Regarding the frequent operational usage of pots during the real MD utilization - it would increase the reliability of the whole device as well !...
