  • White's Gold Master any modifications ?

I just bought a 1968 Whites gold master mineral & metal detector model no.-GMS64 (on line) so don't even know if it works or not and of course I don't have a manual for it. Now to top all that off I'm a newbie....lol Any ideas on if this is it even worth using ? What with the technolgy today ? Any feed back welcome. Thanks P.S. got this because of the cost of new ones and everyone I talked to said not to buy some of the units that are cheap but to go with a name brand.

    Hi Robert,

Unfortunately, the detector you bought is of little value. The technology really wasn't up to par until the 1980's and then, one still had to be selective. The old detectors such as the one you purchased is either a BFO or a TR type detector, neither of which works that well.

If you are planning on using the detector for coin hunting, next time, make sure the detector you buy is a VLF motion discriminating detector if you want something that will work reasonably decent. It wasn't until about the mid 80's or so before most companies were making this type of detector.
